Gregg and Sandra welcome you to Charlan Bed and Breakfast, exclusively for adults only. Charlan is a traditionally south facing restored Maison de Maître stone property built in 1698 and is set on 3 acres of land and is bordered by the River Lot, with approximately 100 meters of private river frontage.
The land that surrounds Charlan on all sides, is mainly laid to pasture and lawn, with some mature trees and a newly planted orchard. Charlan also has a 10m x 5m private swimming pool with an outside WC and changing area. Pool towels are provided for guests.
Charlan is surrounded by acres of kiwi fruit plantations and agricultural land and the only neighbour is approximately 200 meters away. The location is private and peaceful. The access road that passes by Charlan stops at the River Lot and is only used by ourselves, our neighbour and the occasional local fishermen.
Charlan is situated in a quiet rural area, but not an isolated position and is within easy walking distance of the picturesque village, Aiguillon (2km) that offers all amenities, including a supermarkets, post office, banks, tourist board information centre, restaurants and a railway station and is within a 10 minute driving distance to the A62 motorway for access to Bordeaux and Toulouse. Aiguillon is situated between the towns Tonneins and Agen, in the heart of the beautiful Lot et Garonne region in Aquitaine, South West France. The name Aiguillon comes from the point (aculeus in Latin) formed by the confluence of the Lot and the Garonne. The sumptuous chateau built by the Duke of Aiguillon in 1775-81 is now a College, whose majestic rear facade looks out over the Garonne valley. To the right of the chateau and church is the medieval district of Lunac, which contains timber-frame houses and a castle whose roof and towers can be seen from the Place Lunac.

"This has been our 3rd visit to Charlan, which gives an indication of our level of satisfaction. Once again, it has proved to be everything we hoped for in terms of relaxation, food, sunshine and company. The pool is perfect for long lazy days soaking up the warmth, and the hosts, Sandra and Gregg, offered us friendly company when we wanted it, and hosted magnificent meals for us each evening, with menus carefully thought-out and beautifully executed. And a word about breakfast ... wow! Lovely fresh fruit, pastries and cereal, and the widest selection I've ever seen in a B & B of speciality coffee and tea! The Queen bedroom is extremely comfortable and charming, and the private bathroom is as convenient as any en-suite. All the facilities we wanted were there for us, and if something wasn't there, either Sandra or Gregg tried to provide it. The local small town, Aiguillon, is within walking distance, so although hidden away, Charlan is convenient for the market and small shops and cafes. The overall experience was terrific: we hope to rack up a fourth visit next year!"
CYCLISTS
If you are cycling the Canal Latéral à la Garonne and Canal du Midi route, SW France - Charlan is located in Aiguillon on the River Lot, (the meeting of 2 rivers - River Lot and River Garonne) - a great stop off point for the night. Depending on which direction you are travelling on the Canal, either exit at Damazan or Buzet sur Baise, we are 10km from these exit points.
The Canal Latéral à la Garonne is a great way to travel across the Lot-et-Garonne without meeting any cars. The Canal du Garonne towpath, or voie verte, links Castets-en-Dorthe, near Bordeaux to Toulouse, crossing the region over a distance of 87km. The voie verte follows the former towpath and is accessible to all. On the water's edge, this route has a variety of interesting sites waiting to be discovered. From Agen to Meilhan-sur-Garonne via the Buzet vineyard, there are numerous places to stop and taste the delicious local produce, enjoy some fun activities or learn something new in the many museums..
The Lot valley veloroute runs alongside the River Lot for 86km down carefully-marked, gently-undulating cycle paths. From where the Lot meets the Garonne in Aiguillon, cycle past the town of Villeneuve-Sur-Lot and right up to the Bonaguil fortified chateau. This riverside circuit is perfect for cyclists who want to drink in the wonderful scenery along the way, with green expanses of countryside, orchards, fortied towns and farms. This cycle route is located 300m from Charlan.
